James Joseph is the founder and director of The Duty Legacy Ltd, a UK-based consultancy established in 2023 that specialises in atrocity prevention, transitional justice, and human rights advocacy. The organisation provides both paid and pro bono services to governments, international organisations, academic institutions, and NGOs, with a focus on survivor-led approaches and policy reform in post-conflict settings. Through The Duty Legacy, James has contributed to initiatives addressing mass atrocity crimes in regions such as Bosnia, Rwanda, Tigray, Burma, and Bangladesh, and has worked on educational outreach projects like Uncovering the Names in collaboration with Staffordshire University.

With a background in English Literature and International Law from Keele University, James combines academic training with field experience in some of the world’s most challenging human rights environments. He also serves as Director of the Alliance for the Prevention of Atrocity Crimes (APAC), which hosts expert forums and parliamentary briefings on global justice and genocide recognition. In addition to his advisory work, James is a published commentator on international human rights issues, advocating for the preservation of universal rights in an era of ideological polarisation.
